For an OEM temperature-control package, a K-type thermocouple should be qualified as a complete measurement chain: probe, extension cable, connectors, controller input configuration and reference-junction conditions. Selecting K in a menu does not correct reversed polarity, incompatible extension materials or a terminal area exposed to uneven heating.

This guide uses the exact TX4-S W1T/R-2 sample. The matched manual supports K input and shows thermocouple connection at terminals 7 positive and 8 negative for the S body. H/W/L controllers use a different sensor-terminal schedule, so the panel work instruction must identify the actual body.

Put the measurement-chain requirements on the RFQ

State the thermocouple type, intended temperature range, junction and sheath arrangement, extension length, connector standard and controller location. Identify the required measurement uncertainty and reference method. These requirements belong alongside the full controller suffix; purchasing “a K probe and a PID” separately can leave the interface undefined.

The manual lists K input with different available ranges depending on resolution. It also calls for a warm-up period over 20 minutes for accurate measurement. Confirm the selected input range, unit and decimal-point mode in the delivered revision and in the agreed acceptance procedure, rather than treating all range options as interchangeable.

Verify cable identity and polarity through every junction

The TX4 instructions call for designated compensation or extension wire for thermocouples and separation from high-voltage or power wiring. Use extension materials appropriate to the K measurement chain and their stated temperature range. Do not replace a thermocouple run with ordinary copper cable without a designed, compensated interface.

Color alone is insufficient unless its standard is identified. The referenced thermocouple installation guide emphasizes continuity of type and polarity to the instrument. Different color standards exist; record conductor markings and connector polarity rather than assuming that one color always identifies the positive conductor.

Use fault observations to choose the next check

Observed symptom Controlled comparison What it can distinguish
Reading moves in the wrong direction during a controlled probe-temperature change Trace polarity against the exact terminal drawing A polarity/interface error, without assuming a specific temperature offset
Reading changes when the panel interior warms Compare an appropriate reference input and terminal-area conditions Measurement-chain effects versus a real process change
Reading changes when a heater or drive switches Record event timing and inspect signal routing with power isolated Possible coupled interference requiring a properly designed measurement
HHHH or LLLL appears Check the configured range and input circuit The manual’s out-of-range state, not a unique diagnosis of the probe

The manual indicates output OFF for HHHH/LLLL outside the input range. That normal error behavior is not an independent safety function or proof that every sensor fault has been detected. Prevent unintended heating during diagnosis and retain the machine’s separate protective functions.

A different die-heating console illustrates the measurement-chain interface and routing context; its probe, extension cable and controller configuration still need qualification.

Do not hide an interface fault with an offset

A fixed input correction may be useful for an established measurement-location difference, but it cannot make a wrong thermocouple type, reversed pair or temperature-dependent junction error correct over the working range. Establish the cause before applying compensation, and include the agreed correction in the production configuration record.

For incoming inspection, test representative points across the required working range using an appropriate calibrated reference or simulator with the correct thermocouple mode and reference-junction treatment. Define allowed error and environmental conditions in advance. A single room-temperature check does not qualify the complete range.

Control the approved bill of materials

Bind the controller suffix and firmware/revision identification where available, input settings, probe, cable alloy/type, connectors and installation arrangement to the approved BOM. A probe or extension-cable substitution should trigger an affected measurement-chain review, even if the mechanical fit remains unchanged.

Review the WEHO TX4-S information y send the intended K-type measurement chain for configuration review. Include operating range, extension route, accuracy requirement, output interface, sample plan and expected quantity; do not request only a nominal temperature rating.

Buyer questions

Does a stable display prove the measurement is accurate?

No. A repeatable offset can still come from the wrong materials, configuration or reference conditions. Compare against an agreed reference over the useful range.

Can the same K-input wiring instruction be used for TX4-H?

Not unchanged. The matched H drawing uses 13 positive and 14 negative, while S uses 7 and 8. Release a model-specific instruction.
