Conceptual mechanical installation in a dry dairy-line auxiliary compartment. The six terminals are empty; this image does not establish washdown protection or an energized installation.

In a washdown area, select the sensor power system as an enclosure and installation assembly, not just a DIN-rail supply with the right output voltage. Define where water and cleaning chemicals can reach, how the cabinet is sealed and cooled, and what conditions the internal supply will experience. A protected indoor supply should not be exposed directly to a cleaning jet.

The WEHO DRH-60-24 is a conditional example for a dry, protected internal compartment. Its original label states 300–450 VAC input and 24 V, 2.5 A output, with an indoor/protected-environment caution. The supplied evidence does not establish an IP rating or washdown qualification for this model. Its suitability must therefore be assessed within the proposed equipment design, not inferred from the DIN mounting format.

Write the cleaning exposure into the purchasing specification

Ask the equipment owner for the actual cleaning procedure: liquids and chemicals, concentrations, temperatures, jet direction, pressure, duration and frequency. Record whether the electrical enclosure is inside the cleaning zone or in a separate dry service area. Include door-opening and maintenance conditions; protection evaluated with a closed enclosure does not describe cleaning with its door open.

IEC 60529 classifies degrees of protection provided by enclosures. An IP designation must be tied to the tested enclosure configuration and its conditions. It is not a substitute for checking the chosen cleaning chemicals, hygienic design, corrosion resistance or internal climate. Request those requirements separately from the enclosure supplier.

Treat every penetration as part of the enclosure design

Specify cable glands, connectors, conduit entries, door seals, viewing windows, vents and cooling equipment as part of the finished assembly. Their selection and installation must preserve the required protection under the agreed exposure. A high-rated empty cabinet does not automatically establish the same performance after unreviewed holes or fittings are added.

Boundary Buyer evidence and acceptance question
External sensor and cable Are the device, mating connector and cable suitable for the actual cleaning environment?
Cabinet entry Does the installed gland or connector suit the cable and required protection?
Door and service access Are seals, closure and maintenance procedures consistent with the required protection?
Internal power compartment Will temperature, humidity and contamination remain within the supply’s allowed conditions?
Completed equipment Who verifies the assembled configuration against the agreed exposure and acceptance limits?

Keep the internal supply’s limits visible

The retained DRH-60-24 sheet lists a −10 to +50 °C working-temperature row and a 78 × 93 × 56 mm outline. Its rear mounting arrangement accepts the stated TS35/7.5 or TS35/15 rail. These values support initial layout screening; they are not a cabinet thermal test or permission to obstruct the ventilation openings.

Its physical input is marked L1 and L2, with a 300–450 VAC range. An ordinary 230 VAC branch is outside that stated window. The drawing’s generic AC/N and AC/L terminal wording differs from the sample, so obtain delivered-revision wiring instructions rather than relabeling the physical product. Do not add a protective-earth terminal that is absent from the specimen.

For the 24 V side, list the actual sensors, controller interfaces and other proposed loads. Check receiver voltage windows, simultaneous startup demand, cable drop and protection/recovery requirements. A 2.5 A label does not establish how an arbitrary group of field devices will start or respond to a branch fault.

Review condensation and heat together

A sealed compartment can still have an internal climate problem. Include shutdown, cleaning and restart in the thermal/moisture review, not only normal steady operation. The referenced guidance on hygienic enclosures identifies cleaning chemicals, high humidity and temperature changes as separate considerations. Those general risks do not transfer any external enclosure rating or qualification to this WEHO supply.

Ask the enclosure designer how moisture control and heat removal will be achieved while preserving the required protection. Specify the maximum internal air conditions at the supply location and the evidence needed to demonstrate them with the intended load. Do not solve overheating by adding an unreviewed fan opening, or assume an IP designation guarantees a dry interior through every temperature cycle.

Use the sample build to verify the complete boundary

Before ordering a production lot, review a representative enclosure with its actual glands, cables, internal layout and service access. Verify original rear rail engagement and the space needed to remove the supply without disturbing unrelated equipment. Keep the original terminal access and ventilation features unobstructed; do not modify the housing to make an unsuitable arrangement fit.

Agree a qualified verification plan for the assembled equipment, including electrical behavior and the specified environmental exposure where applicable. Define acceptance limits, inspection after exposure and safe isolation/restart procedures. The illustrations here show dry pre-termination mechanical layouts, not live washdown tests or certified installations.

Make repeat-order requirements explicit

Freeze the accepted enclosure parts, seal materials, cable-entry arrangement, supply revision and relevant settings. Require review of substitutions that affect sealing, chemical compatibility, internal heat or service access. Replacing only the power supply may still require branch requalification if its startup or protection behavior changes.

Send WEHO the sensor load and protected-compartment requirements, together with the input feeder, enclosure drawing, internal temperature target and requested documentation. Ask the enclosure supplier to address the cleaning exposure and assembled protection. Include sample and forecast quantities without assuming an unquoted minimum order or delivery time.

Buyer questions

Does DIN-rail mounting mean a power supply is washdown rated?

No. Mounting describes a mechanical interface. The product’s environmental evidence and the completed enclosure design must support the actual exposure.

Does a high IP cabinet eliminate condensation?

No such conclusion follows from the designation alone. Review the internal temperature and humidity cycle, moisture entry paths and climate-control arrangement.

Can the DRH-60-24 be connected to a typical 230 VAC branch?

Not on its original 300–450 VAC marking. Select an input arrangement and exact model appropriate to the project and obtain the matching instructions.
