Ask what the stated voltage is measured between. “400 V available” is an incomplete input requirement if purchasing cannot tell whether it refers to a three-phase line voltage or the intended supply branch.

Hypothetical balanced-Wye example: the nominal line-to-line voltage is 400 V. The corresponding line-to-neutral value is 400 ÷ √3 = 230.94 V. These are two different voltages at different connection points. They are not interchangeable input ratings.

If a candidate is specified only for a 230 V branch, the example does not authorize connecting it across 400 V. Equally, a wide input-voltage range does not establish a three-phase rectifier or a particular phase-loss mode. Record voltage tolerances and site conditions separately; nominal arithmetic does not establish the lowest or highest voltage that will occur.

Compare the installed task before comparing wattage

After the feed is defined, compare available DC output under the same ambient, cooling and input conditions. Then check input-current information for the exact topology. Do not divide a single-phase current by three and call it the three-phase current: voltage reference, efficiency, power factor and phase balance also enter the comparison.

For example, three small single-phase supplies allocated across a cabinet are still three separate loads. Their DC outputs are not automatically approved for parallel operation, and their AC currents will not necessarily remain balanced as machine states change. If one branch supplies most of the standby load, record that state rather than judging only the full-production condition.

Normal operation: confirm the relevant DC output at the lowest permitted AC input and actual thermal conditions.

Input disturbance: define the equipment response to a missing phase, missing neutral where relevant, undervoltage and restoration. Obtain model-specific evidence.

Protective devices: use documented current and inrush information in the installation design; nominal DC watts alone do not select the upstream device.

Maintenance: identify which sources remain energized when a branch or control supply is isolated.

Phase-loss operation should be treated as a separate stated capability. Ask whether the model shuts down, continues at a reduced output, or requires a particular recovery action. A general three-phase description is insufficient evidence for any of those outcomes.

An EDR-150-24 example: read the actual input marking

The pictured WEHO EDR-150-24 carries an INPUT: 200–240 VAC, 1.65 A, 50/60 Hz marking and an OUTPUT: 24 V, 6.5 A marking.
