Farm Pump Inverters: Specify Water Duty Before Electrical Power

WHP-1000W-B mechanically installed on a dry irrigation control shelf with a separate pump area.

Conceptual integration layout only: the separated pump is not evidence that this inverter can start or run the proposed pump.

For a farm irrigation package, choose the water duty and pump first, then qualify the inverter against that pump’s electrical demand. A pump’s running wattage alone is not enough to approve a battery-to-AC system. The quotation must also define starting behaviour, operating hours, battery conditions and what happens when the water or electrical supply is interrupted.

The photographed WHP-1000W-B sample is a 12 V pure-sine inverter marked 1000 W and “Surge Power 2000W.” Those markings identify an electrical candidate, not an approved pump package. The available sheet does not state a peak duration or demonstrate a particular pump start, so this example must not be sold as “suitable for every pump below 1000 W.”

Start the RFQ with the required water delivery

Record the source, required flow, total head and irrigation schedule. Include the actual pipework, relevant losses and intended pump operating point. The referenced pump-selection guidance explains why the pump curve and system characteristics must be considered together. This is general pump-sizing guidance, not evidence of compatibility between a particular pump and the WHP sample.

Have the pump supplier provide the selected pump and motor data for that duty. A low running-power figure at an unrelated operating point is not an adequate basis for an inverter order. Keep a small irrigation controller or valve branch separate from the pump motor when describing the loads.

Translate the pump duty into an electrical acceptance test

RFQ input Why it matters to the package
Motor voltage, frequency, phase and control arrangement The ordered inverter output must match; a socket shape is not a rating.
Running demand at the required hydraulic duty The pump must deliver the specified water flow while the electrical system remains within its limits.
Start current, duration and permitted restart sequence A peak watt number without duration cannot confirm a successful start.
Daily duty cycle and usable battery energy Inverter output power and the hours of irrigation are separate requirements.
Lowest battery condition and cable route Acceptance must not depend on a freshly charged battery and unusually short trial leads.

Do not attach an arbitrary multiplier to the motor’s running watts and call the system qualified. Ask for the pump manufacturer’s starting information and test the offered inverter, battery, protection and cabling together under agreed conditions. Repeated starts and controlled recovery deserve explicit test steps, not just a brief no-load demonstration.

Know what the WHP example establishes—and what it does not

The matching family sheet lists separate DC-input and AC-output options. The photographed unit is marked 12 V; it must not be treated as a universal 12/24/48 V device. The original AC face, DC posts, central rear fan and bottom mounting flanges define the sample’s physical interfaces. Its nominal 296 × 180 × 78 mm envelope does not include the space needed for cables, cooling and service access.

The source package does not establish direct photovoltaic input, a solar-charge controller, pump-speed control, an automatic transfer function or an agricultural environmental qualification. If the project needs any of these, name them separately in the system specification. Do not use “solar inverter” as shorthand for a battery inverter unless the complete architecture actually supports that description.

Specify a farm installation, not an exposed bench test

The equipment location needs protection appropriate to the site’s moisture, dust, heat and service conditions. Keep ventilation paths and access to the original terminals clear. The supplied evidence does not give an outdoor ingress rating for this sample; a sheltered-looking photograph cannot supply one.

Define who is responsible for pump protection, dry-run detection, electrical protection and restart control. Specify the intended response to loss of water, low battery and interrupted power. These functions may belong to other components; do not assume the inverter alone provides them.

Freeze the accepted system before a repeated order

A useful sample acceptance record names the pump, inverter revision, battery arrangement, cable configuration, operating point and test conditions. Record delivered flow and the system’s electrical behaviour during the agreed start/run/restart sequence. If an inverter, pump or controller changes in the production order, review the affected tests rather than relying on the previous package’s result.

Buyer FAQ

Does “Surge Power 2000W” prove this inverter will start a 1 kW pump?

No. The source does not state that peak rating’s duration or a matched pump test. Motor starting behaviour, voltage at the inverter input and protective response must be considered together.

Can the photographed inverter connect directly to solar panels?

The available evidence does not support that connection. Define the charging, storage and DC-input architecture separately and obtain the applicable instructions for every component.

For a project enquiry, send the pump datasheet, required water duty, operating hours, battery information and site conditions with the requested AC output variant. Use WEHO’s enquiry form to request a model-specific proposal and the evidence needed for an agreed package test—not an unconditional promise based on nominal watts.
