Conceptual camera-lighting assembly before connection; the scene does not establish optical flicker performance.

For camera and broadcast lighting, buy against a verified lighting-system specification rather than the words “flicker-free” on an AC-DC supply quotation. The supply, downstream LED current control or dimmer, LED module and camera settings all influence the captured result. A low electrical-ripple figure alone cannot guarantee a clean image at every frame rate and exposure.

The WEHO WL-100-12 is used here as a concrete constant-voltage supply example, not as a certified broadcast-lighting driver. Its original sample is marked 12 V, 8.3 A. No matched optical-modulation report or camera-performance guarantee is supplied with this example, so those are acceptance requirements to establish for the proposed assembly.

Start with the lighting architecture, not the wattage headline

Determine whether the light module accepts a regulated 12 V input or requires a dedicated constant-current driver. A bare LED string must not be treated as a generic 12 V appliance. If a downstream dimmer or current regulator is needed, identify its operating range, current demand and control interface in the same bill of materials as the supply.

The pictured WL-100-12 has three AC terminals at one end and four DC terminals at the other. Those duplicated output terminals do not establish independent dimming channels, a remote-control input or a programmable current function. Obtain the actual module and dimmer documentation before deciding that this supply belongs in the proposed chain.

Keep electrical ripple and optical modulation distinct

The matched WL sheet lists 180 mV peak-to-peak ripple and noise. That is an electrical output specification under its stated test basis; it is not a percentage of light modulation, a PWM frequency or a camera-band threshold. Request the measurement method and conditions if that number is important to the design, then evaluate the assembled light optically.

The referenced camera-shutter guidance describes banding-like shading under LED lighting at fast electronic-shutter settings and explains sequential exposure. That camera-specific guidance is a useful reminder: the exposure method is part of the application. It does not prove that a particular light will fail or that changing a single setting will solve every camera combination.

The WL-100-12 sample is a slim constant-voltage supply. Its electrical label is not an optical flicker specification.

Define a test matrix that matches the buyer’s production work

List the intended camera models, shutter modes, frame rates, exposure times and dimming range. Include the lowest required brightness, intermediate levels and full output. If the equipment must support slow motion or several broadcast workflows, put those modes explicitly in the acceptance matrix rather than approving only one familiar camera preset.

Item to freeze Why it belongs in acceptance
Supply and LED module revision A replacement component can alter the behavior of the assembled light
Dimmer and its settings Brightness control may change the optical time pattern
Camera, exposure and frame rate A visually steady light is not a universal camera result
Input, cable and temperature conditions The light must meet the agreed duty after realistic warm-up
Recorded pass/fail criteria “Looks fine” is difficult to repeat across factories and incoming lots

Agree which optical measurements and image recordings are required, how they will be made and who approves them. Keep the original captures and settings with the sample identity. Do not turn an attractive studio photograph or a static clean frame into evidence of a completed flicker test.

A field-production lighting case illustrates service access and component fit, not a passed broadcast-lighting test.

Qualify the electrical and mechanical assembly separately

Check voltage at the actual lighting module, not only at the supply terminals. Include the intended cable length, distribution connections, startup load and dimmer duty. Confirm the assembly’s thermal limits in its real enclosure and retain access for safe servicing. Electrical verification and optical acceptance are complementary; neither replaces the other.

The WL-100-12 drawing has a 138 × 50 mm footprint with two diagonal slotted mounting tabs. Its headline and drawing show 23 mm height while one dimension-table row states 24 mm. Request the final drawing before releasing a close-fitting enclosure. The photographed current is 8.3 A; a website table’s 8.5 A must not silently raise the approved sample’s load limit.

Build a repeatable OEM purchasing package

Freeze the supply, light engine, dimmer, connectors and software settings as an approved combination. Define which substitutions trigger new camera testing. An apparently equivalent power supply can preserve nominal voltage yet change dynamic behavior; a different dimmer can alter the light even when the supply is unchanged.

For a quotation, provide the LED module datasheet, total and transient current, dimming method, camera matrix, enclosure drawing, ambient conditions, sample quantity and expected batch demand. Ask for revision-controlled specifications and support for the agreed acceptance conditions. Do not assume broadcast suitability, commercial availability or lead time without a project-specific response.

A camera-lighting specification should identify operating modes and acceptance evidence for the assembled light, not only supply ripple.

Review the WEHO ultra-thin supply family and send the complete camera-lighting requirement. The important purchasing outcome is a documented, reproducible assembly—not a supply label used as a substitute for optical evidence.

Buyer questions

Can I approve a light because it looks steady to the eye?

No. Assess the actual camera modes and agreed optical criteria. Human observation is useful but does not replace the specified camera acceptance.

Does a 180 mV ripple specification mean the light is flicker-free?

No. Electrical ripple and optical output are different measurements. The downstream module and dimming system must be included in the qualification.
